When plans come together

The Chair

We’ve been in our home for almost 29 years as I write this, and we’ve long known we want to stay here as long as possible. Of course, it’s a two-story home, which our knees and hips have often reminded us of.

A couple of years ago, we had the chair lift pictured above installed. It’s for the dogs, honest. Well, at least initially.

Formally known as “Walter‘s chair”, we added it when it was clear that he was having back problems and would need to be carried up and down each day. Unfortunately, he passed before it was installed, but for the last year, we’ve been using it to carry Maxine instead, as she has had some elbow issues that we want to avoid exacerbating.

Normally, there’s a Maxine-sized wicker basket in the chair, and we walk alongside as she goes up and down.

I removed the basket yesterday. I am now the basket.

After The Fall, one of our goals was to return to sleeping in our own bedroom. Mission accomplished, much to Kathy’s relief, and the dogs’ delight. While I slept on a recliner, they were all happily snoozing in our normal bed to much better effect.

We weren’t planning on this specifically, but we were planning, and sometimes those plans really do come together. There have been several small-to-medium, serendipitous things that came together to make this experience a little less traumatic, and the chair is one of them.

  1. I got a chuckle: “I am now the basket.” Or, the way it went through my head is: you’re a basket case.

But yes, some of the serendipity you’ve seen is absolutely wonderful. You have SO many good things to be grateful for!
