Refreshing the Colors

Two years ago I replaced our worn out flag with a new one. I added a Pride flag because I felt that the far right had commandeered the U.S. flag into a symbol of extremism that I didn’t want to be associated with. The Pride flag sends a pretty strong message that that ain’t the case here.

Little has changed. Both flags had worn quite a bit in the intervening time, so it was time for a refresh.

The colors are once again bright.

For both.

From that 2024 post:

Some may find this performative. Others may consider it virtue signaling. Whatever. It’s what lets me feel better about raising a flag once again.

We have friends in the queer community who are scared, some even for their lives. Some are scared their marriage may someday be deemed illegal. Some are just anxious, without knowing exactly why. They all share the realization that some large percentage of American voters don’t believe they should exist.

Hopefully, my small effort will make it clear that there are people who don’t feel that way.

Inclusivity seems particularly important on this 250th anniversary of this country.
